Cruzin' for Life's mission is to raise funds for patient support through Marian Cancer Care in Santa Maria, California, as well as the local chapter of the American Cancer Society. Our contributions to the children of Santa Maria include the ACS by supporting 'Road to Recovery' and ' Tops for Tots to Teens'. Last but not least we are adding in 2013 a percentage to our Tri-County 'Make a Wish' Foundation.
Marian Cancer Care: Cruzin' for Life provides funding for a cancer patient Outreach Fund. This is a discretionary fund which covers needs that insurance does not, such as transportation & housing while in treatment, mortgage payments, car payments, utility bills, child care, etc.
'Road to Recovery':
Every day thousands of cancer patients need a ride to treatment, but some may not have a way to get there. Santa Maria does not have the facility to treat pediatric cancer patients so it is necessary for them to go to Santa Barbara, UCLA or the bay area for treatments. The American Cancer Society Road to Recovery program provides transportation to and from treatment for people who have cancer who do not have a ride or are unable to drive themselves. Volunteer drivers donate their time and the use of their cars so that patients can receive the life-saving treatments they need.
'Tops for Tots to Teens': This is a new program we have partnered with the local branch of American Cancer Society to provide a significant service to children in our area. We know that wigs and hats are more readily available to adults in the Santa Maria area but most often they are not suitable for our children. Tops for Tots to Teens will provide a variety of hats, caps, scarves or wigs for small children to teenagers making life easier for them to cope with their hair loss.
Tri-County 'Make a Wish' Foundation: This organization grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. The Tri-Counties chapter, which serves Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties began in 1985. They grant 65-80 wishes annually with a team of 100+ Volunteer Wish Granters.
Each year our amazing community comes together for the Annual Cruzin' for Life event. A big thanks to extraordinary contributions from local businesses and individuals!
